The interview

Science TODAY (rapid succession of images of scientists, technological equipment, human works, buildings, bridges, helicopters, a rocket, satellite)

Conductor: Good evening Latin America! Welcome to another edition of science today, the program highlights the current state of science in the year 2035, 15 years after the creation of the Latin American Union of Nations (ULATNA).
(Applause)
Driver : And today is a pride for us in this program, submit to a multidisciplinary team of our nation, a team composed entirely of Ulatnos!
(More applause)
Conductor: We welcome you to Ana Laura Bermudez, Joaquin de Souza, and Romina Zelaya. Welcome! The 3
: Thank you
Driver: Well, well, Tell us where they are and make
Ana Laura: Well, my name is Ana Laura, I'm from the province of Peru, and I am molecular biologist Romina
: Yes, my name is Romina, genetic engineering and I'm from Argentina province
Joaquin: Well, my name is Joaquin, I'm from the province of Brazil. We are part of a research team working in Ulatna National University, the Capital
Driver: Ah, but good! University is very active, is that the academia in Cochabamba is moved. Romina
: Yes, there are many interesting lines of research, and due to the excellent level of work being done there are many funds that are supporting research. Without going further on the laboratories that work Siemens has donated electronic equipment we need, and SurPharma provides us with the reagents and components that need ... without these contributions could not be carrying out research
Conductor: And what exactly is research?
Ana Laura: This is junk DNA
Driver: What?
Ana Laura: Well, you know that DNA contains the instructions to arm every living being. Every part, every organ, every cell type is encoded in our DNA. It is through protein synthesis ... hehe, well, I think it would be difficult to explain that now, but basically if the DNA is unrolled a long strip containing "molds" for making proteins that then direct the cellular machinery make their activities ... create new cells grow, divide, creating a body, etc.
Driver: Yeah ...
Ana Laura: Well, and has been known for several years that a large portion of our DNA does not encode anything. It is as if this "strip" of DNA unwinding, it ends a little after half the equivalent of "STOP / STOP / STOP." Conductor
: Fascinating ...
Joaquin: Yes, approximately 20% of DNA is "junk DNA" sequences that are never put into action.
Conductor: Excuse me: Does that mean that there is 20% of DNA in humans is not known what it does, and it's just there, doing nothing?
Romina: Yeah, well, actually this is true in almost all living beings, not just the man.
Driver: But excuse me, and please correct me if I'm wrong ... Humans differ from chimps by only 5% of their DNA, right? Romina
: If
Conductor: Wow ... the possibilities are endless ... Ana Laura
: We think so. If indeed this 20% of DNA can be activated and encodes something, could create a completely new ... or do not know why.
Driver: But this has ethical implications? Joaquin
: Of course, of course ... Ana Laura
: Our laboratory is audited once a week by the department of bioethics at the university, and must report any progress when it occurs. But the point is that we do not think
activate genes Joaquin : Not at this time, of course, we want to know what would. So we use current knowledge of genetic programming to try to figure out what that DNA encodes. Romina
: Our work is mostly computer simulations, and at a later time we manipulations to human cells already formed, such as skin cells or muscle to activate these sequences and verify the synthesis of proteins provided by the simulations ... Nothing to work with embryos or to create monsters, jajajaja
Conductor: This is very interesting. And they expect to find in that junk DNA? Joaquin
: I do not know. So we are doing research.
Driver: Well, some idea should be ... "Humans with wings? With infrared vision? With a third eye? Ana Laura
: (forced smile) hehehe ... Well, technically, if so may be something completely different to what we know, not even be "beings Human "but perhaps a new species. But we want to avoid that kind of speculation, are really sensational and have nothing to do with our investigation.
Romina : In fact we hear all kinds of nonsense on this subject. Indeed certainly is a byproduct of evolution and is really trash.
Driver: Oh yeah? But what crazy things they say?
Romina : Nothing, some say that mankind was created by extraterrestrials, and that part DNA left a message for us to read when we have the technological development needed ... something like a message in a bottle
Ana Laura: Yes, indeed some say is a message from God that we left in the DNA
Joaquin: Yes, but we want to make clear that these speculations are totally divorced from our research. Our research is about what it means that DNA, which has biological or evolutionary sense, and as it is there ... Conductor
: Guys, what they say is extremely interesting, but now we have to go to a commercial. (facing the camera) not go, folks, that the next block will show the latest advances in nanotechnology ... We'll be back!
man angrily pressed the remote control. The TV went off with a buzz protest.
His face is a grimace of hate, dismay, and anger. If we could enter his thoughts would know that angry that people play at being god. Only God can give life, or amended. And these scientists are playing with fire.
- Something to do - was surprised to hear his own voice, dry and scratchy - Something must be done ...
He rose from his chair and went to his attic, where he kept long since their "tools."
After unwrapping a neatly packaged box, stroked an automatic pistol was inside. Skillfully disarmed, found that all the pieces worked, that the magazine is full and also the 2 extra chargers.
then saved it again as murmurs: - I would consult with his father Mario.
and closed the attic.
